Military Gays: What's Really Important?

There's a ton of chatter going on with the latest on the "Don't ask/Don't tell" policy regarding openly gay Americans serving in the US military. When I served during the Clinton Administration the don't ask don't tell policy was the current way of dealing with gays in the military. I ask "dealing with"? What is there to deal with?

Can you do pull ups? Can you run three miles? Can you operate your weapon system proficiently? These are the questions I cared about. I didn't care if you were a White backwoods Arkansas hick, a Black basketball player from the Florida, a Female from California, a Muslim from Nevada, or a Gay person from Philadelphia. If you can perform your duties as a soldier and not let the person next to you down in a stressful situation then you may fight next to me. If you can shoot straight and fire on the bad guys while I'm reloading then you can fight next to me.

And if you can do this...

Then you can fight next to me.

Here is a video about Nuvia3 from my website:

The History of the Warrior Workout

What is Going On?
There is a workout that I have been developing for the past twelve years, I have been utilizing lately as a personal trainer, and I call it the Warrior Workout. There have been a few widely used and very popular variations of the original workout such as the P90 and now the P90X, as well as many so called body "boot camps". The predecessor to all of these workouts is the Navy SeAL (Sea Air Land) Workout.
The History
I was taught the SeAL Workout when working with one of the teams on some special operations training missions in southern California. The deal was I teach them how to shoot like a Marine scout sniper and they would teach me some of their combative martial arts and their workout. What I learned was a military calisthenic based workout that relied on "muscle confusion" and focused on the body's core (abs and back) while maintaining a full body workout with out the use of any equipment whatsoever...a true full body "boot camp" workout. What I have done since learning the workout, noticing what is wrong with the P90 and other body boot camps, and have learned through training people of all levels of fitness is I have tweaked the workout to push the individual to build a strong core, increase strength and improve cardiovascular fitness. In addition to the original workout I have added the Sun Salutation yoga poses to increase flexibility and mobility, which with age becomes increasingly important.

The Future is Now
I will be running the Warrior Workout on the weekends starting after the New Year. During the week I will be working part time as a personal trainer at a couple of gyms and incorporating some combative mixed martial arts bag work with the Warrior Workout for an extra calorie burning experience. Stay tuned because in February Gushollywood Productions will be filming the workout above the Hollywood sign in California with a DVD release soon to follow! I will also be releasing you-tube videos of each of the exercises for everyone to try.

Lastly, what is great about this Warrior Workout that I have developed is the fact that you don't need any equipment or a gym to do the workout. I have run the workout on a basketball court, flight deck of an aircraft carrier, hotel room, the park, and someones front lawn once...you can do the workout almost anywhere.

Twinkie Diet

Twinkie Diet
So I am sure most of you have heard about the Nutrition Professor that went on a "twinkie" diet and lost weight. Make sure you read into this diet that Professor Haub tested on himself. In the article is mentioned how multi-vitamins, vegetables, and other nutrients were consumed during the experiment for two and a half months. I don't recommend this diet obviously. The test results were positive, minus the borderline diabetic readings, but anything will look positive when you take 25 pounds of bad weight off of your body. The whole point of the diet was to show that reducing caloric intake with any calories, good or bad, will shed weight. The problem with this is that it doesn't matter what you're putting into your body...if you don't get the correct amounts of nutrition in all areas, your body will be depleted and malnourished and you will feel it.

It doesn't matter if you eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for 10 weeks, your body is not getting everything it needs. Let's take the guy that did the independent film Super Size Me for example: He ate McDonald's every day for 30 days and had tests done to see how it would affect his health. I ask..."well smart guy, what did you learn?" only because he could have eaten Ben and Jerry's, or pretzels, or Top Ramen noodles, or anything three times a day for a month and anyone would be feeling a little malnourished.

Rules of thumb to follow through this upcoming holiday season:
  1. Make breakfast the biggest meal of the day/dinner the smallest
  2. Your meals should fill both of your cupped hands and no more (the size of a normal stomach +/-)
  3. Eat more fruits and vegatables
  4. Portion control, it's okay to try everything...just use small portions at big family dinners
  5. It's okay to have sweets, your body needs sugars, chocolates, butter, etc. but only in small quantities
  6. NEVER eat 3 hours before bed
  7. Drink more water especially as soon as you wake up when your body needs it the most (water also keeps the hunger away)
  8. Walk that food off...find a hill or a path and go for a walk for 20-40 minutes
  9. Cook instead of going out to eat. This will save you money and you will burn calories preparing, cooking, and cleaning up after.
  10. Nutrition and diet is only half of the equation, exercise is the other half...need I say more? (well I shall, but in future posts)
Another way to ensure healthy living is taking in a juice that contains super fruits high in anti-oxidants, helps you stay hydrated with coconut water, is an excellent energy booster before a workout or in the middle of your work day, and will help reduce unnecessary weight. It comes in one ounce shot form! I recently obtained my Sports Nutritionist certification and I have tried quite an array of products relating to fitness, health, and wellness. I have finally found a product that is not carbonated, does not contain caffeine or Ephedra, has huge amounts of anti-oxidants, and doesn't come in a large wine type bottle like some other health drinks, ie. Mona Vie, Xango, etc. It's in shot form and tastes great when added to water, cranberry juice...even vodka (long story).

If you are interested in getting this product let me know...you can also become a member and save/make some $$$.

    Home Invasion

With the U.S. economy in an unstable state home invasion should be a thought on everyone's mind. Crime tends to rise when the economy is down. Do you as an individual, parent, husband, or property owner have a fire escape plan at your residence? Just as important as a fire escape plan is a home invasion plan. Check out these statistics:

    Home Invasion Statistics
    Via: Homeowners Insurance

    Check out this video:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=6870303n#ixzz14QdrhGRd

Are you prepared for a home invasion situation? Are you trained in empty hand defense, rape prevention, weapons/tactics, and home invasion. Learning about these types of situations won't give you the answer for every single situation. What preparedness and training will give you:
    1. The confidence to make correct decisions in dynamic and stressful situations such as a mugging at an ATM or an attempted rape in a parking lot.
    2. The ability to protect yourself and your loved ones.
    3. The situational awareness to avoid and/or survive potentially fatal situations.
Many have the "oh this won't happen to me" attitude right up until they become a statistic. As my Austrian special forces friend says, "there are the grass eaters that have their heads down not paying attention to anything but the grass, and there are those that sneak up on and prey upon the grass eaters". Don't be a grass eater! You might wonder where you can receive training?

At Defensive Firearms Training you will learn about safety, the color code of mental awareness, weapons manipulation, marksmanship, malfunction clearances, reloads, and shooting while moving. The students who graduate to more advance classes will work on high speed close quarters engagement using your hands, knives, and firearms as weapons against your adversaries.

    Keep 360 degree situational awareness.
